Holding Onto Winter
White Oak at the Cabin 3/25/13 |
This white oak at the cabin appears to be holding onto winter with a tight-fisted, steely grip. Or maybe it is pleading with outstretched arms for the arrival of warm, sunny days.
Today was another cold, blustery one. More like January than late March. Spring is definitely tardy this year.
I noticed a wild pear tree at Mama's today that is in full blossom. The forsythia is also blooming, along with the autumn clematis, loropetalum, carolina jasmine, bridal wreath spiraea, and a snowball viburnum. The buds on the dogwoods are fat, and I saw a hint of a bloom on one. Any day they will start to pop.
I spotted those three puppies (maybe just little dogs?) in the woods again yesterday, taking the same route as the last time I saw them, back in early February. I watched them through my binoculars, and they appeared to be fine and in good condition. I think they must belong to someone nearby. Someone who just lets their dogs roam. :-( I could not tell if they had collars on, but they did not seem desperate. If they start hanging around the cabin or come to me for help, I will help. Otherwise, there isn't much I can do. I am having to develop a thicker skin about these kinds of things; living in the country requires one to be tough in more ways than one.
