Finally!
My new old floors were worth the wait! |
The floors are FINALLY installed. I chose reclaimed antique heart pine, sourced by a company in Florida. I feel like they looked out for me, waiting to deliver until they had wood of the premium quality that I paid for. But the wait was long and sometimes taxed my patience. When I ordered in late January, they estimated three to four weeks until delivery. In the end, I waited a long seven weeks.
Delivery was arranged with Fed Ex Freight - that's the big 18-wheelers, not the small vans and trucks that deliver your Amazon orders. Since there is no way for an 18-wheeler to get down my little trail of a driveway, I borrowed my step dad's trailer, hitched it to my truck and met the delivery out at the "main" road that leads to the cabin. My step dad and neighbor helped with the unloading, loading, and final unloading of the wood. I was very grateful for their help. Once inside the cabin, the flooring was unbundled and allowed to acclimate for about a week prior to installation which occurred this past Wednesday, March 21.
The floors still need to be sealed; this will happen after the other finish work is complete. Next week, interior doors and trim work will be done. Cabinets should go in within three weeks or so. Then I can get the plumber back to finish up. By the end of spring I hope to have a cabin with indoor plumbing!
Floors installed. Interior doors and bathroom vanity/sink await installation. |
Neighbor Lewis and Stepdad Lamar offload flooring from FedEx to the trailer. |
Then we moved it from the trailer to the cabin. |
Larry and Tommy install the flooring. |
In other news, the tile was installed in the bathroom. I like it! |
