If You're Patient
Things have been happening recently at the cabin. I now have indoor plumbing! Running water, a kitchen sink AND a bathroom sink, a toilet, and a shower. The plumber finished up this past Thursday. Yes, my country life is taking shape.
Since I last wrote about a month ago, that troublesome kitchen counter finally arrived -- an inch or so too big for the space. I was so aggravated that I told Larry, my fabulous carpenter, to "make it work!" Being the excellent carpenter that he is, he refused. He didn't have the ability to trim it properly and professionally himself, and while it could have been installed as it was, he simply wouldn't do it if he couldn't do it right. Turns out it wasn't that big a deal for me to return it -- just an afternoon out of my life and well worth it. Rather than dealing with Lowes again (GAH!), I went straight to the vendor, a great little company in Bogart. They trimmed the counter to perfection while I waited and sent Lowes the bill! A few days later, Larry was able to return and install it for me. I'm pleased with the result. Many lessons learned on this, and if I ever do another do-it-myself kitchen, I'll do things differently!
The floors are scheduled to be sanded and sealed this week. The shower enclosure has been ordered. The water heater is in place, but isn't wired yet. That should happen this week too, I think. The construction debris has been cleaned up and will soon be hauled away. I've still got a punch list as long as my arm, but it is satisfying to be at this point in the process. If you're patient, or even if you're not, things eventually come together. But since patience feels so much better than impatience, it's best to just relax.
