Sweet Reminder

Front porch at the cabin.

I finally got my front porch in shape, and I like the result. All along I envisioned a pair of painted rockers, either black or dark brown. The rockers are inexpensive purchases from Home Depot – just $99 each, plus the cost of paint. The coffee table is one I picked up for $10 at a thrift store. The side table has been with me for a long time now; it used to sit on my back porch at 110 Lamont Drive. I have always loved this little table. Painted dark walnut to match the rest of the furniture, it provides the perfect place for my coffee cup and the binoculars.

The flowers are from LaMama’s yard, and the blue enamel pitcher that holds the flowers is on loan from my sister. I borrowed it for my brunch this past Sunday. I like it so much that I might forget to return it.

The straw, hand-held fan is a gift from my niece, Abbie. She brought it back from a study abroad in Ghana a few years ago. When she gave it to me, I put it away with the intention that it would someday reside on the front porch of the cabin where it is both functional and a sweet reminder of Abbie.

Now that cold nights are behind us, I greet each day from one of these rockers. If there is a chill - which sometimes we are still fortunate enough to have a crisp snap to the early morning air - I wrap myself in a blanket. I sit quietly with my coffee, listening to the birds and watching the rabbits, squirrels, and deer.

That’s the latest news from my country life. Wishing you peace and happiness.
