Today's Harvest

Today I harvested one peach and a couple handfuls of figs. We are still getting lots of figs as long as I remember to pick them daily, just as soon as they start to turn. Otherwise the birds get to them first. It appears we are about mid-way or better through the fig harvest. As for the peaches, there were a total of four on the tree this year, which is an awful plenty when you consider we didn’t even know it was a peach tree until a few weeks ago. We just picked all four of the peaches; there was one for me, Mama, Lamar, and Jolyn. I already ate mine, and it was very good. This tree is definitely worth the trouble to move it to a better location this fall.

Have you heard of Aereo? This is a new startup company offering access to broadcast television for just $8 a month. They started in New York, then Boston, now Atlanta, and they are spreading like wildfire despite the protests and legal maneuverings of the networks. Aereo basically rents you an antenna via the internet so that you can easily access any broadcast channels that are available. Rather than breaking out the rabbit ears, you can just signup with Aereo. It’s simple, and it works great. Of course if you have Apple TV or similar device, it makes it even better because you can stream right to your television set. They offer a free one-month trial. I now have access to ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, The CW, MeTV, Peachtree TV, My TV, Antenna TV, and a few more. Oh, and you also get remote DVR capability so that you can record shows and watch them later. I’m just a few days into my free trial, but I’m pretty sure I’ll keep it. $8 for all that seems like a great value. Thanks to Susan for the tip!

That’s the latest from my country life. Wishing you well.
