Owning the Right Tools
My main project for this trip was to install shelves in the shed and get it organized. Until now it was just a blank space where I had been storing tools, my CrossFit gear, and other stuff that doesn't belong in a living space. I spent about $100 on materials which included 12 MDF boards from Home Depot, brackets for mounting, and screws. The result is what you see here. I'm pleased.
Thank goodness for the Craftsman drill my brother gave me years ago when I bought 110 Lamont. That was when I first realized that being a do-it-yourselfer has less to do with gender and more to do with owning the right tools. And having a self-reliant nature, of course. My brother taught me to use the drill for basic things like installing window treatments. Later when we were building the cabin, he taught me to use a power saw, a table saw, and some basics of construction. There is tremendous freedom in owning the right tools, knowing how to cut a board to the size and angle you need it, and then being able to do something with it.
