Happy Grateful Bits

Wildflower down by the creek.

Looking for the good in every day is something I try to practice. I'm always happier when I take time to notice what I have sometimes called the "happy grateful bits," the sweet little things that happen around us all the time, the things that we tend to overlook in favor of all the things that irritate us or cause us to worry. You know, things like traffic, weather we don't like, the job we do or don't have, how much money we have in the bank, people who bug us, etc. But I've learned that whatever I give my attention to expands, so I choose to give my attention to the good stuff. Here are today's happy grateful bits.

Sue asked me at the last minute to write the "Parting Thoughts" for the November issue of Buckhaven Lifestyle. I wrote about Thanksgiving and submitted one of my favorite photographs to accompany the article.

I found a persimmon tree with ripe fruit on it, fruit that I can reach. I picked a few persimmons and tried one. I feel healthier already.

I pulled several muscadine vines down from trees along my driveway–vines that had grown up into the tops of trees. It’s not good for the trees, plus you can’t get to the fruit way up there. I harvested the muscadines from the vines I pulled and put some of the grapes in the freezer for later. Perfect for smoothies.

I had a great workout today. I did five 3-minute AMRAPs of 3 deadlifts, 6 pushups, and 9 squats. One-minute of rest between each of the AMRAPs. This was a good one; sounds so simple, but it kicked my behind.

I cleared some dead-fall from an old path that I plan to restore over the coming months. Path-making is best done in winter, but I am feeling impatient so I did a little preliminary work today.

That's the latest from my country life. Wishing you well and hoping you notice all the happy grateful bits in your life.
